Some helpful game dev stuff :)
Hello!.
This thread isn't sponsored by any of the links provided. I'm just trying to help some peeps out with the stuff I struggled to find on my own. I hope this info helps improve your pages and projects!
This time I'm going over all my dev logs, and cramming everything in to one bite sized post. Yep, Choco block sized content is so good!
Alrighty, let's get it!
Top Tip.1
Humble Bundle: Game Dev Assets / Music / Books / Tools.
Humble Bundle is awesome, and some of the game making assets can be really helpful. It's best to buy only what you think you will need, or you'll need a 100 new hard drives by the end of the year XD. Humble Bundle. It's really great value, especially if you're budget is really low. So check out Humble Bundle each week for game making assets, music tools, and editing! It's all good, and goes towards charities too!

Top Tip. 2- Add Gifs to your Itch.io page.
It took me ages to find a good free way to make a Gif that didn't need a PHD in IT, it's all a little easier now. ezgif.com will do all the work for you, and will also resize your gifs to the 3mb limit that Itch.io sets. Just upload a small MP4 video clip, and BAM, it's done!
Top Tip 3- Twitter
It's not just about what you did that day. Twitter has many game making groups, and these can be for uploading new screenshots to your game, or just ranting about your project. It's worth having a go, and my last dev log covers a few groups you can start using too!
Top Tip. 4 - Make a tutorial for your game, inside the game. :)
It took me way too long to realise no one understood how to get from A-B in my game, I mean, players aren't psychic, or are they O,O!
I've played a number of Itch.io games which many are small. I've been playing computer games for a long time too, back when dinosaurs where roaming the earth, and cavemen were clubbing rocks. (Okay, I'm not that old) >.< So, make a guide for your game, and do it inside the game. If someone has to go to YouTube to find out what they need to do, 5 minutes in to your game, then something hasn't quite let the player know the mechanics of the game. Small details like a short piece of text on the levels go a long way, especially in a game that looks like really open.
Top Tip. 5 - Study the best assets for your game making program.
Going back to my project, I had zero knowledge that I could have got much better graphics sooner! Now, I'm forever re-doing maps with new tile sets. It's best to find everything that's popular for game making for the program you use, and try to get it. It will save you some time, and you can move forward rather than backwards allot of the time like I've done.
So, that's it for now. I'll have more game dev toots in a week or so.
Take care, and have a good weekend!
